Process Overview
I am Prianca Harichand, a dedicated Counselling Psychologist committed to creating a warm, non‐judgemental space for growth and empowerment. With an undergraduate and honours degree in Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Master’s in Social Sciences in Counselling Psychology from the University of the Free State, I have honed my skills across diverse settings – from schools to private practice. My training in evidence-based approaches, including Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), enables me to provide tailored support for individuals of all ages. I am continually expanding my expertise, including further training in Play Therapy and EMDR for children, to ensure my clients receive the best possible care.
When I’m not in session, I enjoy walks on the beach, exercising, spending quality time with family and friends, and exploring creative pursuits.
“My mind is empowered, resilient, and open to growth.”
The number of sessions is dependent on several factors including your specific concerns, goals, the type of therapy and how you respond to treatment. Some clients see improvement in short-term therapy (6 to 12 sessions) and others require long-term therapy (several months or years).
During the initial assessment sessions, we can identify your needs and tailor a treatment plan. Therapy is flexible and we can regularly check in to see your progress and adjust the therapy as needed.
How often you attend therapy is dependent on your individual needs, goals and type of therapy you are engaging in.
It is helpful to reflect on your goals or intentions for therapy. You do not need to have a perfect answer – therapy is a place to explore. The therapist will guide you throughout the process and provide you with tasks to fulfill during the therapy.
Yes, according to the National Health Act No 61. of 2003 it states that all clients have the right to confidentiality. There are circumstances where a therapist is advised to divulge confidential information for example in circumstances where the client is of harm to themselves or others, with the express consent of a client, with written consent of a parent or guardian of a minor under the age of 12 years, in the public interest, and at the instruction of the court.
Yes, there is however, this option is limited to adult psychotherapy and in specific circumstances psychotherapy for adolescents. I use Google Meets, and Zoom to conduct sessions, which will follow the same process as described on my website.
I work with specific medical aids to help make therapy accessible. I can provide detailed information on how to claim back costs from your medical aid, and in certain circumstances, I may submit claims on your behalf.
